vaporstat location

Installing a vaporstat and gauge on a peerless steam boiler. Current pressurtrol is located atop a 180 degree pigtail which sprouts from the top of the LWCO/blowdown assembly. Since the LWCO is connected at two points, the top being above the waterline, this shoud be an acceptable location for controls right? .... or is there somewhere else that would be preferred- perhaps the vessel itself where the current 0-30 guage is?

I know a pigtail is necessary.

What is the ideal location to install the vaporstat and low pressure guage?

I don't like mounting it on the LWCO

since all the dirt goes into the LWCO and can then plug the pigtail. The top gauge tapping you mention is a far better location.

here is my peerless setup. i don't like the LWCO location, because it is so often full of sediment. i used 2 copper pigtails to ensure that at least one is open. mount them high as i did to prevent the elevated waterline [for skimming] from tripping the vaporstat.--nbc

Thanks, I think I'll

go off the vessel where the current high pressure guage is. I'm thinking copper pigtail to a cross, then to a 90 on each side. Three tappings for 1) vaporstat 2)low pressure guage and 3) high pressure gauge. Thanks for the tip about skimming too. Hadn't thought about the height/pressure issue for when the boiler is overfilled to skim.

Does this sound good to you? It's a residential 3 section boiler, I'm not planning to do any heroic double pigtail piping! Nice photos, though. beautiful job NBC!

double pigtail

with unions in apropriate places, all things are possible!! notice that i needed a shelf bracket in the end to keep it straight. i think your piping will be fine.-nbc
