    7800 how-to ?

Ok , I have 4 Burnham 8-H ( size unknown as I write this ). The ATS contracter is asking me for connection points for ..

    1) Status
    2) Alarm

    Here's what I know about the 7800...

I have a display module that I can connect to the control and it tells me everything about what it is doing in any givin sequence. I keep the manual with it that gives me almost any answer I could encounter ( used in this fashon I have had very good results in solving problems with the 7800 ).

So , the 7800 has the ability to communicate status , alarms , etc. I have seen a communication module available , is it like " bacnet " , or something different ? I'll continue to look for this info ( it is probably obvious ) ...but any experience or recomendations are appreciated.

    hmmm

This goes beyond the 8100 series ( or whatever the grey box is ) that I'm used to ( laugh out loud ).

  • I think the 7800 has a terminal for an alarm bell. You can get an expanded annunciator from Honeywell for the 7895 that will have the options you want. Thats what we have on our larger burners. Why not have the control guy furnish the control he is demanding.

No sense overdoing this. The 7800 has an alarm contact(I don't know the terminal #) that would be powered on a lock out(flame failure)

If he wants status you can wire a relay to the motor terminal or to the main fuel valve terminal to close a set of contacts and prove status.

  • I checked the data sheets for several 7800-series units

and they all have an alarm terminal built in: terminal AL (usually 3 or 4 on the sub-base, check to make sure). This terminal generally outputs whatever the control's line voltage is- if you need a different voltage you can use a relay.

For a permanent status display, check out the S7830 Expanded Annunciator. It can be installed up to 500 feet from the unit being monitored.

    thanks

    ...and thanks.

The factory is using that no. 3 ( alarm )terminal for thier external safety interlocks ( seems to me I saw a different terminal for that but what do I know ). So , at this point , I don't understand the operation / function of that terminal. The gas valve seems a reasonable place to prove status for sure. And the device that was mentioned is sure to be the best resolve on this I think.

    awesome...

I refer any steam ( or burner ) issues to yourself and Steamhead...( DC and Southern MD / Baltimore respectivly ). I work for a company in Laurel , so I do encounter both for sure. You guys live what you do , and are the best the DC/Baltimore area has to offer on the mentioned topic(s) . I thank you both for your input. -Mike
