Hi there,
First of all, thanks to ALL of you for your advice over the years. I have referred many people to the website. Anyway, I had a question, we had a Burnham independence installed and it works great, quiet, fast, etc. on a one pipe steam system. It has a probe type LWCO.

My question is: How close should I keep the water line to the "Normal Water Line" level that is listed in the manual. I know we should try to add as little make up water as possible. Should I add when it's an inch below normal, half inch? In a month and a half of operation, it has decreased by about an inch. Which is better than the leaker it replaced which was losing an inch per week!

Thanks for the advice, just want to keep the boiler around as long as possible.

    Water level

    You should not be losing any water to speak of. Do you have any underground return lines in basement. Any vents constantly leaking, steam coming out vents? Just wondering. Also I would have thought they would have provided you with auto makeup for boiler. That would be a requirement around here. Tim
