    I replaced.....

an ancient 1/2" Dunham 1E radiator trap with a Mepco 1E a couple of weeks ago.

Now the tenant says it makes a high pitch squealing sound on occasion. As luck would have it, it is right next to his bed.

I haven't been there to check it yet, but what could make a trap sing?

    Any thoughts,

    Jim

    I'll check....

it out today. Funny, it did not do that when I was there. I waited until the rad got hot all the way across and the trap closed.

It's in an old commercial building that runs at 5 psi.

Maybe some junk loosened the rad and lodged in the trap.

    Thanks,

    Jim

  • Say Jim,

5 psi sounds pretty high,, does it have to run there?

    I tried....

turning it down once, as soon as it falls below about 4 psi they get no heat to the fifth floor.

This is an old commercial building in which the top three floors have been converted to crappy apartments.

I believe at one time it was a vacuum system, but the vacuum pump is long gone. As long as the tenents aren't complaining, the owner isn't interested in fixing it.
