oil heating system blower (who's right?)

quick question: I was talking to a friend about oil heating systems and this friend insisted that the blower on these systems are used only to "evacuate" any fumes in the boiler. I told the him that its was for combustion & atomizing the oil into a fine mist for burning. WHO'S RIGHT?

    don't be too quick

Are you and your friend on the same page? he may be talking about a power ventor(which would be used for evacution of flue gases.)If he wasn't, now he can say he was:-) which makes you both right.

    both right

You are more right, but prepurge and postpurge cycles are very important and the fan does that as well.

    Chim-Chim-anee

Had this discussion a long time ago with an "oil burner pro"..Burner fan is for combustion, chimney is for removing the flue gas from the appliance (or a power venter)..or, as some call it in my area: Chim-ley!

    Blower

The blower or fan doesn't atomize the oil. The pump does this job. ED

    Nozzle Atomizes

On most systems, without a nozzle the fuel oil is not going to be atomized.
