    looking for advice

No, I haven't changed jobs, but the contractor doing my install is apparently spread pretty thin. He has I think 5 guys working for him and does mostly commercial. From my conversations with him, it seems that he needs a better method to get things done. He has all the same problems that many here know about, like jobs bid months ago being accepted now with time frames of "get it done yesterday"! Says he is hiring an office person but seems to be dealing with the non-revenue generating portions of this business a little too much. I'd like to help him out since he seems like a genuinely nice guy. Other than pointing him to the Wall, what advice can you offer?

    Thanks,

    Larry

Have him get in touch with a specialized HVAC business planner to evaluate his rates, efficiency and portions of business better left to outside people.

    scheduling

It's a tough one that we've all faced, but I hope he is at least limiting the validity of his quotes to 30 days. He can add a disclaimer that if not accepted within the time frame, it is simply first come first served and he reserves the right to reject any job after that date. Then he can claim a deposit is required to hold a slot in his schedule. We require a 10%, non-refundable deposit to hold a schedule slot for work beyond that 30 day window. It takes a lot of pressure off and allows for easier scheduling.
