Stack temperature

Options
Make sure your meter reading is a true " T Nett" reading", flue temp minus ambient. Also when you turn your meter on, it normaly has a countdown auto calibrate time. This normally takes a half minute.

When your meter is counting down, keep the probe end away from parts of the boiler that are above ambient temp. It could be a reason these reading are high. Some meters do give a T nett and T flue reading.

I use a UEI C75 and Testo 325 and are with in 5 deg. of each other any time I put one against another to verify.

I just stuck a digital thermometer in the stack of my V74 boiler about 9" above the boiler while it ran for about 5 minutes.

It went up to 648 deg F.

    Any thoughts or comments?

    thanks

With a stack temp at that i would if the boiler is oil fired call for a cleaning and have the chimmey base check .Sounds like it's dirty with a stack at over 600 ,i would have the boiler clean and serviced and a eff test performed peace and good luck clammy

    just a temp probe

This is not a combustion analyzer or any thing like that.
it is just an industrial thermometer with a stainless steel probe.
