Dio is a local boy from here in central NY and the word here is that he and Geezer and Iommi are going back out this summer.

Wow
Had the chance to see The Who in Bridgeport, CT on Tuesday night. If you have any chance of seeing them, GO! An incredible show. As good if not better than when I saw them at Shea for their farewell concert 20+ years ago.
The Pretenders as a warm up band were also amazing, like no time has passed since the early 80s.
One thing that was missing was the haze of smoke in the air.0 -
DAMN !!
I tried to get my brother to go and he passed.
I Also saw them twenty years ago at Gillette/Sullivan stadium.
When I was thirteen both my older brothers took me to the Music Hall in Boston for my first concert ... " WE WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN ... NO NO ".
Glad you had a great time.
Scott
PS: Everyone has there opinion but mine go's to The WHO has the best over all Rock Band.

I took my son, 16, to see them. His first big concert. He had a blast and proudly wore his tee shirt to school the next day for all to see. $35 for a tee shirt! Ah, what the hell, it was great.
Best ever? If not, damn close. I like so many bands for so many reasons, that would be a tough call to make.0 -
saw them when keith and john were still alive. quadrapheinia(sp) and tommy. taint nuffin gonna beat that!!

Paul- Adopt Me
What a dad you are!
Isn't this a great age when parents and kids can appreciate the same music? Mom and the kids and I can agree to U2, Dave Matthews and classic reggae... Now The Who..
The Who may be "oldies" but the revival is something we will not see again in our lifetimes.
Just hope you did not get too wistful during the concert in remembering the great weed you had back then for $20 an ounce...0 -
We've had....
3 generations of the Aiello family at 2 Jimmy Buffett concerts. My parents, my siblings and myself + my (at the time)5 year old niece. Her first Buffett concert was at the ripe old age of 3 !
Every once in a while, I HAVE to rent "The Kids Are Alright". If you haven't seen this great piece of film, DO IT!!!
John Entwisle was among the BEST bass players to ever grace the stage of a rock show.Carried the tune....so the rest of them could "show off" in MHO. Chris0 -

My son too. Since he was little he's been listening to everything from Beethoven to Rush. Has a real appreciation for music. He also has the talent, like his dad, but he'd rather play video games.
A note on the new Who cd: It comes with a DVD of them live this summer in Lyon, France. When it was over I thought about what I had seen. Townsend and Daltry voices sounded shot and they looked like they wanted to be just about any place else. This was not the same band I saw last Tuesday. They were alive and at the top of their game.0 -
Speaking of The Who..........
Did you know Sirius has a channel dedicated to The Who? 24/7 music, concerts and interviews, etc. Matter of fact, they played CT last night and you can hear the concert at 9 PM tomorrow. They play in Mass tomorrow and can be heard on the 3rd at 9 PM.
If you don't have satellite radio you are missing the greatest thing to happen to music. Nothing is cooler than having to drive a couple hundred miles and listening to the same station with no commercials!

The can still rock after all these years. Maybe it's time to take my 13 year old son to a show. He's into AC/DC now....

They are coming to the Gadden (spell it like it sounds). Saw them at Tweeter just after John died . did you know Ringo Star's son played with them alot. Of course lots of kids like the old stuff that's because most of the new music stinks!!!!!! Who's out there like Pink Floyd , the Stones, Queen , Eagels,Rush etc. today????

Zack Starky, Ringo's son, is playing on this tour. A Fantastic drummer. And Townsend's brother Simon is on guitar. Pino Palidino is on bass, he's played with everyone from Don Henly to Paul Rogers to Tears for Fears to Eric Clapton. What a lineup!0 -
Youse Guys!!!!

Warren Zevon and Jimmy Buffet
Should have seen the look on some peoples faces when my 9 year old twins started to sing along with the radio as we waited for a table, the song was a classic Zevon "Roland the headless thompsom gunner" the looks priceless. My other twokids saw Jimmy Buffet the first time at ages 4 and 7 from the third row center they also knew all the songs too.0 -
The Best?
That's a tough one! For 70's groups I would say in sort of order....... 1. Sabbath 2. Zeppelin 3. Deep Purple (Fireball).
The 80's would be 1. Alcohollica (Metallica) 2. Slayer 3. AC/DC.
Ouch.........my head hurts

Kids Concert
Mine was REO Speedwagon at "Crestwood Fest" in Crestwood, Illinois. My kids were like 7 and 8 yrs old then. They're both in their twenties now. They cracked wise at my taste in music over the years as they ventured into rap, country, and heavy metal, but now that they're older they appreciate all the great rock that preceded "their music"0 -
I told you
its my opinion Jeff BUT ...
They started long before any of those others.
Continued to put out albums.
Townsend has consitantly written more music than anyone else in the league.
All FOUR where tremendous musicians. Daltry has probably the best voice in Rock.
They are STILL putting out music and Unlike Ozzy Osbourne you can understand them when they speak.
Thats my vote, everyones different.
Tommy.

The Who
The best! BAR NONE! and #2 Little Feat.0 -
The Who
Nice to see we wetheads do something besides work. I guess we can take our play pretty seriously too. On the mention of Sabbath, I think their period with Dio on lead vocal was when they sounded best.
Mark B.0 -
ok
The Who , Stones, Floyd,Queen, best of the Britts, but what about on this side of the swamp.
Cast my vote for CCR,Eagles,The Band,J.Giels,Aerosmith,Boston,The Cars, and who could leave out the Blues Brothers?? and The Fools cause thier just plain fun.
Funny how so many are from Mass....Nah not really after all we've got The Boston Pops, The Symphony,Fiedler,John Williams, think about that all those great movie themes Jaws,Star Wars,Raiders of The Lost Ark, Close Encounters, Jurasic Park all from here. Shoot we've pretty much got that market cornerd sept for the greatest movie theme of all Barry's score for James Bond of course.

No Wait!!
While Barry's original score is classic of course. Who could forget Carly Simon singing "Nobody does It Better" for the Spy Who Loved Me, she's also from here or was anyhow so we got a little piece of The Bond songs to.

Heaven and Hell.......
is a great album, for sure. Rumor has it, they may team up again for a new disc and possibly do some touring. To me, though, Sabbath will always be Ozzy. Saw one of their final shows last year at Ozzfest and on that night, it was magical. They were at their best. It had been decades since I last saw them. Goose bumps all night!

OK, I'll participate too...
The WHO were and are giants in rock history. IMHO, the Moody Blues were the best ever, and still are performing as well. Dire Straits; Mark Knopfler is the best living guitar player. Jimmy Buffet is great, love that island fantasy stuff. Eagles, CSN&Y, John Fogerty, John Mellencamp, The Traveling Wilburys. Great stuff.0 -
I got into this thread late
but man oh man, when I was in college the neighbors must have got an ear full from me blasting Quadrophenia. "Love Reign oer Me," Doctor Jimmie. At it's best played loud. I saw them at the Capital Center. I fight broke out in front of me between a group of guys and the bouncers. One guy spun off and landed on my dates lap. I shoved him off and he turned around to come back at me when a bouncer grabbed him from behind, Whew! All the while the Who were rocking out and a primo lazer light show added to the crazyness. This was back when Moon and John Entwhitle were still with us

Dio is from Cortland
I am from Auburn, saw ELF play about a zillion times and their CD's still hold up. Ran into Dio in a club in LA, he is 5' tall (maybe) and Rock Feinstein(guitar in ELF) was 4' tall. I felt like a giant among legends... and yes, Sabbath w/Dio is getting back together for a CD and world tour. Iommi is a GOD

Wayne, you were told to avoid
the brown acid..... Are you sure that fight was real?0 -
Who rec'd
If you are a WHO fan, you cannot see them with MOON AND ENTWHISTLE, or can you?
Rent or buy The Kids are Allright, The Who Maximum R&B, and The Concert at The Isle of Wright, some phenominal playing, when Keith wasn;t too wasted he was untouchable.
Also good reading books-- Two Sides of the Moon, by Keiths personal manager Dougal Butler and Keiths Autobiography by Tony Fletcher --http://www.ijamming.net/Moon/KeithMoon.html
The truth about Moon is wierder than Moon, he accidently ran over his assistant killing him and I think after that he never forgave himself and went on a self destructive tirade.0 -
It's working.0 -
Hey is this thing on
Can ya here me back there ?
Well then shut up !!

I took my kids (well, four of 'em) to see Alice Cooper, Hot Tuna and soon Blue Oyster Cult. But I'm kind of turned off about Townshend and the kiddie porn bust a few years ago.
Too bad Zappa's not alive- we'd follow the tour.0 -
I've heard that the Dwezil (sp?) Zappa show thats around now is very good. I think it's called Zappa Does Zappa. Has some of Franks original members in it.0
