Boiler Sealer

My brother-in-law just told me he has a leak in his 15 year old WM boiler between the 3rd and 4th loop in the mud room. Oil company just put in boiler sealer to allow him time to think about a replacement boiler. How long could that last?

Good news is the boiler company told him about the current incorrect piping so they seem to know about steam. Currently, no equalizer, no hartford loop, and the return uses copper. They also want to perform a heat/loss calculation on the house. I told him to also make sure he gets something in writing about banging pipes and that they will remedy the situation if they start banging. Anything else I should suggest?

I plan to have him look at the professionals on the WALL for other quotes.

Thanks for any input.
