What does the term "dead men" stand for? I assume it is boiler specialists but not sure.0 -
the founding fathers
the men who put the first heating systems in.0 -
ttowne,
Without getting long-winded, the term is used by us in the trade as, "The tradesmen that came before us, in a different long-ago time".0 -
Dead Men
Dead Men,
They are the tradesmen who have long since passed on to that great boiler room in the sky.
They were the men who did work to install heating systems way back then, which we work on now.
I have to admit, when I am looking at an old system, I sometimes think back about the men that were standing in that very same spot, installing that system, probably before I was born.
Just a little nostalgia,

Dead Men,
absolutely something to strive for. What AMAZES me about those guys is that without the benefit of the Wall, modern tools, the benefit of years of product engineering and application, light wieght application specific material and on and on, these guys created systems that were beautiful, and would prove to stand the test of time.
Definately "something" to strive for.

MY DEAD MEN................................
I'm a third generation licensed master plumber in nyc, and they that I'm talking about installed many thousands of boilers by-the-book and each job was a signature job. My Grandfather worked in the cold water flat conversions, installing those old, bulky and beautiful "pancake" coal boilers and engraved radiators. My Dad and I did the replacements to newer gas boilers. I've gone back to many of their jobs, and the work is a testimonial to their knowledge and workmanship. Yey a tombstone outside, and sculpture within. My Dead Men.0 -
It seems that there could have been a more respectable name for these men and the work they did. I had a feeling that the name implied it was a dangerous job. It probably was!0 -

I imagine your dad and grand-dad were equally eloquent as is your son- much to be proud of.
Beautifully stated.
