Oil tank replacement

My boiler contractor just installed a brand new oil fired Buderus. The existing 275 gallon oil tank up here in New Hampshire was equally as old as the furnace that the Buderus replaced. What are my options other than the traditional looking fuel tank? (spindlely black iron pipe legs, large floor space). What is being installed these days?

I am finishing my basement and hesitate to think what would happen if the tank failed. I am planning on replacing it this Spring or Summer when I can let the tank run low.

Thanks,
....Sean

    Double Wall Safety Tanks

    Sean,
There are several manufacturers of Double Walled Safety Tanks that are basicly a galvanized steel outer tank with a polyethylene inner tank. They are more expensive than the old standby but do offer a huge improvement in containment reliability and stability. Check the web, look for Roth, DeHoust, those two come to mind.

    Granby 20+

Also consider the Granby 20+ tank. It's a conventional 12ga steel tank that is fully encapsulated in a dense polyurethane based coating. It is very rugged and warranteed for 20 years. No top drains to worry about pump suction capability and/or air leaks either.
