need some advice with my steam boiler.

i have a steam boiler that cuts off before the t-stat is satisfied and wont come at all. someone told me to rise the pressure at the pressure contrl for steam a little bit. it was set at 3psi. it wont kick in till i adjust it to 7psi is this normal..? I dont think so.. i was told residential boilers need at least 2psi of steam steam to heat the house. plus the gage is stuck at 10 psi and never went down .. i know the gage is broken but is there something else like maybe i missing . could it be a bad pressure control.

Yes that is the probable cause

Karl, that pigtail can act like a \"roach motel\"

if the pressure was up when it plugged...."the pressure gets in, but it can't get out!". This can hold a pressuretrol open so the burner doesn't run.

Might be time to call a pro.

    Beware...

Sometimes they are very hard to clean. If the thing is ancient, it can break off at the threads when you try to take it out. Just be gentle.

    Low Pressure

Most steam systems operate with less than 2 lbs of pressure, which is not enough to indicate on most guages.

Codes require those 15 lb guages, but on most systems, you'll never see them move.

    Gauge

In a normal home you may never build enough pressure to move the gauge. Sounds like it is fine.
