i/m sorry idon't have photos. I came up from the supply tapping to the top of the boiler then installed an 1/14" ell followed by the air separator then the pump. I continue another foot then have another ell and a 1 foot runout with a tee first and then an ell to which both supplies are connected.

    gravity to circulating system

i just finished installing a new burnam series 2 hot water boiler to an existing gravity system, I have done this many times with good results. On initial start up everything worked fine except i couldn't get the longest branch to heat. I am pumping away with 2 1/4 supplies and 2 1/4 returns each comming off of a common manifold. I don/t have air lock, i'm running 18 lbs. pressure @ 180 degrees. any suggestions????

What circ are you using? What size did you reduce to @ the circ?

    pipe size..

I have done this before , and we did some weird undersizing on the near boiler piping ...it has been a long time ago...sorry I can't remember the specifics. -Mike

    ??

Can you post a picture of the near boiler piping? I've always found the key to a sucessful gravity job is the orientation of the pump, and the pump itself within the near boiler piping. I personally like it on the return in a gravity job to slow it down a bit. Was this system closed off yet? Is the tank still in the attic?

I reduce to 11/4 and use a 15-58. No problems. AND get rid of the attic tank. Just did one that would not pressurize past 8# or so, then heard rain on a sunny day. Prior company even put in a bladder tank which apparently was for show. WAY undersized.

taco. all piping is 1/14. i'm using 2"x 1 1/4" male adapters at the original ells. i did install a ballvalve on the 2nd branch supply. When i closed it a can get heat in the long branch. i'm going back in the morning and hopefully the customer will tell me the house heated evenly.I know balancing can be a problem but i've never encountered a problem like this.

I also have ball valves on returns to regulate flow.

    I had a problem

last year where the longest run branch line was undersized and not heating. All of the othet branches were 1 1/4 minimum. I had a 3 speed circ and I turned it up to high speed and it fixxed the problem. Sounds like a balancing problem possibly. WW
