Flsuhing out the boiler/pipes

Hi all,
I have a steam boiler and according to the instructions on the drainage plug, it says to flush out 1-2 times per month during the heating season. When I do, the initial drainage are brown in color and subsequent ones are lighter but still not clear.
How do one go about to flush out the dirts? Do I have to hire a professional to flush out the sludges and all? Thanks.
