Gas vs. Oil boiler

I have a steam heat system and I need to replace the boiler. I currently have an oil fired boiler but there is gas in my area. I'm wondering if there is any advantage or disadvantage to going with gas. From a fuel cost there is no significnat difference. That didn't used to be true in my area but over the last 5+ years the actual costs have been comparable. What about noise noise ? Is a gas burner quieter then an oil burner ? I guess one advantage is you don't have to service a gas system each year.

    look into

If it were my system I would be looking at the new Burnham MPO steamer coming out. Then again, personally, I like oil over gas and I service and install both. With gas you are hooked to one company. With oil you can decide your supplier. My .02 cents

    I would...

Think about the W/M EG series. 3" risers - standard. Gas is cleaner, quieter and as of today, a less expensive fuel choice, requiring no "on-site" tanks or UST's.

The maker and model are only 50% of the decision process. The installed is the other 50%.

Don't force a good contractor to use what you want, ask him to justify his selection with logic and reason. If it makes sense, the numbers are in the ballpark, and you've checked his references with no negatives, your parts over.
