Munchie outdoor sensor

High temp reading means low resistance, in other words it's a short circuit. Could it be somewhere in the wires?

Not directly relevant to the problem, but the Munchkin uses a funky thermistor, 12K rather than the standard 10K. This makes it a pain to replace.

    I have now had

2 of these sensors "quit" on me in the last little bit. They go then read 155* for the outside temp, so of course the heating never comes on. Anyone else had a problem with these little varmits?

And don't go knocking the Muncher either, as I just had to replace a tekmar ODS today after only 4 years!

Just replaced two of them myself. Had a few go bad last year as well. It seems to happen in the begining of the year.
Always mount outdoor sensors, where you can reach them.
And yes, Tekies go bad too.I keep two of each on my truck now!

    I have a job

where we are on our fourth sensor and it needs to be replaced.

They work fine for a while and then they go crazy.

The wiring is fine, the sensors are posessed!

    Munchkin sensors

They are drivin me crazy. I have 7 jobs in the last week that we had to disconnect till we can get new ones. Same old story- we have hot water but the heat won't come on. I am considering putting a switch in line with a tag that says flip this if the heat doesn't work. Does anybody have a source for a 12k sensor that is more reliable?

    Replaced three.

Last heating season I had to replace three of the buggers. I hope none go bad this season.

    Troy,

on the first one that went south, I actually used my tekmar 002 tester to "tell" the V1 that it was 60* outside until I could get the replacement. LOL! As said above, I learned from that experience to keep my ODS close to the ground! Had to climb out a top floor window onto a shake roof, thank God it had been dry for a while! LOL!

Some improvements were already addressed last year.

Here are some of the things they did after last years bout with these units.

    1. Changed program on board which will allow the unit to still function even if you loose the out door sensor IE; NO outdoor sensor no reset on boiler .
    2. Changed potting on sensor to silcon clear material versus gray material which showed some signs of not sealing correctly .
    3. Changed NCT to be moisture resist. This way water will never effect unit.

So far the potting material change seems to have done the trick.

But the boiler has always worked (without reset) when there is no outdoor sensor, i.e. open circuit.
