Here's a job Steve did this summer

We have gone over the layout and picked out the things that should have been done better.

The ball valves should have been more accessible, we hate where the electrician put the controls ( we should have mounted them ), and a the whole system should have been spread out a little more for (again) ease of access.

Otherwise a nice job. This supplys DHW and two fan coils that were installed by others. Its run with a basic 260 control.

    We live and learn.....everyday.

I see a lot to be proud of...

... the boiler sits on blocks, has a proper gas shut-off that is easiy accessible, a union for changeouts, and a fat drip leg as per code. The indirect water heater is also elevated off the floor and looks happy.

The supply piping features an indicator that shows pressure and temperature, which helps troubleshooting. All non-drain valves appear to be full-port, zero friction models. The way your team got the different sized valves/pipes to stack up as nicely over the the header is exemplary. Otherwise, the circs would not have been aligned...

Your system is pumping away, the piping is largely plumb, and the heavy stuff is well supported. Plus it stands far enough off the wall to allow for insulation (which I would retrofit at least around the IDWH supply and return).

The iso flanges around the circs are a great touch, as is the easily accessible expansion tank. BTW, did you guys paint it for the occasion? :-P Just kidding, presumably it comes out of the B&G lineup.

I see lots of drains for purging circuits, a recirc to keep the hot water lines hot, etc. so there seem to be plenty of reasons for this homeowner to be very happy with the job.

Could the wiring have been neater and the TACO box more accessible? Sure. But given how its mounted, moving it later won't be as much a problem as with some systems that run all their wiring IN the wall instead of in BX. Cleaning up the Tstat wiring with a little press-on conduit would be visually appealing but that's about it.

And so this homeowner sees a lot to be proud of and happy with.

    that looks excellent.

i like insulation on pipes however the extra heat might be good for that area...for a while.

    Looks like

a winner to me. I like the mounting of the circs on a diagonal, and I've started doing it that way too. That way you can get to the junction box and get to the flanges back bolts and nuts too. Pleasing to the eye. Nice job. WW

  • First class job!

By the way, aren't u the guy that gonna be walking barefoot with coffee in ur hand, gettin the newspaper outside on ur snow melting sidewalk, while ur neighbors shoveling the snow?

    Yes I am

and you'll be seeing that as snow as the snow flys.

Thanks for all the compliments, but I must say " we can do better ".

The return ball valves are hidden behind the supply main and you could get burned shut off a zone. Adjusting the Tekamr is the same.

I say this for others to see and learn.

    Nice enough for

    the customers I run with.

Get yourself a box of Webstone ball/ purge valves for a simple, clean looking purge point.

    important point

    We can all do better.

Thanks for the pic, it really is a nice job! Only we high hydronic arteest types can find things to tweak!

I always thought it important to take lots of pictures of my installs. Then when planning an install on a similar piece of equipment I can easily make changes, and fix things before I even get on the job.

    Good thread Scott

    install

    Nice install Scott/Chris.

I'm sure we shop at the same hydronics supply house. Dont you like the Raven valve which ties the air eliminator, exp. tank and feeder?

And now that I've used the Caleffi feeder/backflows, I refuse to use anything else.

And not only do we love the Webstone iso flanges, but their purge station is great, as Hot Rod mentioned.

    Wait...

I think I see a droplet of water on the supply and return pipe threads.

Must be those "best engineered boiler in the world," so dificult to engineer, straight-cut threads they forget to include on U.S. export units?

Kidding aside. That is one helluva nice install!

The "sales-lead" of course came from???

That is a nice looking job Scotty

A couple minor details as you mentioned but who of us hasn't stood back to look at a just completed job and said "I shoulda".......

The guys that are completely satisfied with their work are the ones that never improve.
