Cast Iron Radiators leaking
Drew S.
Member Posts: 17
We have a one pipe steam system with a new Peerless EC 3 boiler and last week noticed that our bedroom radiator was leaking. It appears to be leaking from the bottom portion of the radiator one of the first three sections adjacent to the valve. What are my options?
We have also recently purchased Vent-Rite adjustable air vents for our radiators. I am noticing the threading of the nipple on the new vent doesn't quite match the threading of the hole in the radiator. They won't screw in all the way. Anyone have any helpful tips?

Sounds like a bad push nipple
in the radiator. It probably failed due to acid condensate, which can be caused by lack of proper main vents.
Push nipples can be replaced if you can find one that matches. But if the rad uses screwed nipples, it will be difficult if not impossible to fix. Then you need another rad.
A 1/8" pipe tap will clean the threads so the vent will screw in properly. Don't overdo it though.
