... is called a range boiler. In winter, the real boiler would heat it, providing hot water. When the main boiler was off in summer, the side arm heater would be used to heat the range boiler. With no insulation on the tank, it was likely fired up only when somebody wanted a bath ;~)

Do you see a name on the side arm heater? It looks interesting.

What do you guys think this could have been. It comes off the boiler and has a burner also. Also check out that stand.

What is it

That's an old side arm gas water heater, usually used in conjunction with a range boiler (storage tank)....very common item in the old days. In fact, I have one at one of my customers homes and it is still operational....but not used for obviousl reasons.

with one still in the basemant, and has a mini coal burner that was used to heat it.

Another name for it was

A bucket-a-day stove, 'cause it used about a bucket of coal to run it for a day. Never seen a gas one, coal was the more common ones here in good ole NW Va. My brother and I have about a dozen of these in our respective collections
