    For the Daddies in the trade

    I met a little lad one day who promptly told his name,
    And just as promptly told his age and his one single aim.

    For when I asked him what he'd be when he became a man,
    His answer covered all the ground of boys since time began.

    No need to name a dozen things to coach this little lad,
    "When I grow up to be a man I'll be just like my dad."

    And oft I sit and ponder what a fine world we would see,
    If every father lived the way he'd have his son to be.

    For every dad's a model tho you search this wide world o'er,
    No king is ever greater than the dad that boys adore.

    For day by day where e'er you go those eyes of youth so keen
    Are watching everything you do, if selfish or unclean.

    So pause and think before you've done what you would always rue,
    For all boys try to do the things they see their daddies do.

    Little Chap Who Follows Me

    That reminded me of a poem...

    The Little Chap Who Follows Me

    A careful man I ought to be;
    A little fellow follows me;
    I do not dare to go astray
    For fear he'll go the self-same way.

    I must not madly step aside,
    Where pleasure's paths are smooth and wide,
    And join in wine's red reverlry~
    A little fellow follows me.

    I cannot once escape his eyes;
    Whatever he sees me do he tries~
    Like me, he says, he's going to be;
    The little chap who follows me.

    He thinks that I am good and fine,
    Believes in every word of mine;
    The base in me he must not see,
    The little chap who follows me.

    I must remember as I go,
    through summer's sun and winter's snow,
    I'm building for the years to be,
    A little fellow follows me.
