New Elect. Thermostat = Hot water Problems?

Just your avg. homeowner here. OK, maybe a little handier than most.
Here is the set-up: Old 1 pipe steam heating system which also supplies the hot water to the home. Well a few nights ago I changed out old manual home thermostat with a new "energy efficient" Programmable Electronic Model (Aube). Ever since then when we've tried to take showers the hot water pressure drops dramatically and we're constantly adjusting the hot/cold.
I'm assuming the problem is the new thermostat but I can't seem to figure out why.
Or could it be a coincidence and something else is wrong?
