    air balance

A load calculation needs to be done on the home to determne the proper size equipment and the cfm of air that needs to be delivered to each room.

Each duct run needs a volume control damper that is in the "open" position. A flow hood can then be placed over each supply air register and adjusted to the appropriate cfm needed for that opening. As the correct cfm is reached, the damper should be "locked" into place and marked on the duct where the correct setting is.

Multiple readings usually need to be taken to get the cfm correct throughout the system. Plus or minus 10% is usually acceptable in the industry.

For this to be done correctly, a flow hood, Velocicalc, or some other balancing tool needs to be used. Without a proper balancing tool, the balance would have to be done by the seat of the pants using dampers and "feel" of temperature in the room.
