Hey guys, I have a freind who wants to install a CombiCor. I don't install em so I am not up on the sizing. How do you balance hot water demand with the heating demand?

You don't
Been a while since I CombiCor-ed. As I remember they have a choice of two different BTU and cspacity models.
Pay attention to the output of the coil (hydronic) side. The original ones had very high pressure drop when you tried to get maxium output. Also the DHW side needs to run very hot, 160 or more to get mid to high tempersture output from the coil. I suspect standby loss goes up with those high storage temperatures.
Perhaps they have changed the design, the original coated aluminum coils were a problem, at least for me. I felt the design was clever and it filled a niche,
I like to see them up the gradient and build an external coil version around their condensing water heaters. I think the days of WH powered hydronics may be limited with fuel price patterns. 60-70% efficient equipment sure looks bad, these days

combi-cor a disaster
I installed more than two dozen of them. 90% failed within 5 years. Everyone I know had the same experience. Avoid like the plague.

I concur...
12 installations, 8 replacements within 5 years. We will never install this product under any circumstances.

hot water tanks
Try the AO Smith "sideloop" model, it has 2 side outlets on the tank, connect to a external flat plate exchanger.

I agree as well. That is why I don't install them. But like I said this is for a friend who is on a budget. I told him I'd look into it for him. Thanks for the info guys.

price comparison
I think the AO Smith side loop is actually less money than the combi-core, even with the the exchanger, ect.
