Munchkin Woes again!!!!!

I knew there was a means and that was such a time ago that it was explained to me. That is why I am trying to get a hold of an HTP tech. Last time I had a problem that was not a norm (About two years ago, on a Sunday as well) an HTP tech did get ahold of me. I am kind of hoping for the same results again today, so that I can have a positive solution My Email address is radiantyeti@aros.net
and my cell number is 801 / 963-0807 (mountain time zone)

munckin wont ramp up to temp.....Why!!!!!

I am having difficult time with a 140 put in three years ago that from time to time just does not want to ramp up to set point temprature. have a Tekmar 363 controling the house controls and the boiler but every now and then it seem to go on strike, any Ideas on how to crack the wip on this? Is a conflict in controls, or am I just a dumb a$$?
Hell maybe some one from Heat Transfer can contact me again, and I'll Email the fault history.

    140

Well, I do know that you really can't have the Tekmar try and control the boiler,it will control itself.. The TT connection has to be a simple on/off reaction. The Tekmar can do whatever you wish with the rest of the system though.
How is the Tekmar integrated into the system?

    Munchkin woes

It is true the Tekmar is only closing and opening the "TT"end switch on the boiler. The Tekmar is doing six zones of infloor radiant, Indirect hot water, and three zones of set point which are the fan coils.
While doing DHW or set point it ramps up to 180 with out a problem. but during the mixing demand it would appear that the Tekmar and Munchkin are not playing well together. An example of this is periodically the boiler will not ramp up to temprature to let the injection control on the tekmar work, or as the munchkin starts providing the tekmar with a load it opens TT. In the last six months it has had 3899 passed ignition attempts.
One of the things I have done to keep my Delta T up is use a smaller pump on the boiler loop (15-58 speed two)
have you any ideas short of repiping this manageri?

    what is your piping arraigment

? What temp do you need the fan coils to go at? what size is your indirect? Do you have the 925 control with the munchie?

    turn off the century

The House was built in 1897 and has black iron half inch pipes imbeded in six inch thick cement that are on eight inch centers, the fan coils are still the originals since the wall are built around them so we need to supply a minumum of hundred and sixty, we did replace the old hot water storage tank with a triangle eighty gallon tank.
The original install of the mechanical was way ahead of its time that is still ahead of the current curve, I like the return balance needle valves and easy to read mercury thermometers on each of the circuts.
Since the radiant heating is the primary heating of the house ninty percent of the time we decided that this would be great for the munchkin. at the time of install the 140 did not come with alot of information let alone the 925 control but since then I have upgraded the controls to a 925, and boy eliminating that air pressure switch was a god send (almost as good as beer) and putting a condensate pump on also eliminated alot of the 009 codes from the long run of condensate drain.

    I may be all wet

Excuse me for not knowing all the info, I lazily skimmed through the posts. I'm assuming you know the two gray TT wires are simple "call for heat" and doesn't mean you're gonna get 180 or whatever your high limit is set at. For that you need a Vision control.

The two gray wires will indeed kick on the boiler, but once it sees the delta T it will start revving down, it's looking at the load. If there's a large load obviously the DeltaT will be wider, causing the little guy to rev up more output.

I may be dumb too; how would a Tekmar control operate with a munchkin anyway??

There are some "insider" tricks on how to get the 925 control to rev 100% upon start, ask the HTP people for the special recipe.

I've done this a couple times. "I know I'm call for X but it's not doing it." In my case, once the pilot error was located, the boiler behaved much better. :)

Just call up HTP and follow the menu to tech support. The person that frequents the wall is Chuck, but he is one busy person this time of year. They work hard to help and anyone who picks up the phone will get you going in the right direction.

The 925 board is part of the boiler, you can't get a munchkin without it. It's the model of the board that runs the boiler. The upgrade is Vision1, which adds outdoor reset and priority heating for an indirect like your Triangle.

There now is a way for the boiler modulation to be controlled directly from the tekmar, but that wasn't an option when you put your system in 3 years ago.

Next time it's "on strike", hold down the reset button on the display for a few seconds (blinks a d1.) It will start showing you the internal status variables of the boiler. Get all of those and then call HTP while the problem is occuring. They should be able to tell you what's going on.
