no flu needed?

Can someone explain to me where the burnt gas goes if there is no outside flu vent? I see no CO detector with this unit. But I see it monitoring oxygen levels.

The idea is..
... this sort of a fireplace insert is not supposed to deplete Oxygen levels below a safe level by drilling the pilot orifice size to such a size that the flame will go out when the Oxygen levels drop a percentage point or two. In an ideal world, the production of CO would not have started to spike until the Oxygen levels drop even lower.
Trouble is, who checks to see that the fireplace insert doesn't produce CO in the first place? I wouldn't put one of them into my house on account of the CO question and all the water vapor that these units add to the house. Units with flues are a much better choice, IMHO.0
