freezing pipes

does at a higher speed is infiltrate the house more and get that 32 degress closer to the pipes. I never worry about cold air, its when the weather man says strong gust that I get worried.

Insualtion helps but getting the pipe where the ambient temperature is above freezing is the key.

    can you help me out if the out side temp is 36deg and you have a strong north wind blowing bringing the windchill down to 09deg will the water running along an outside of a wall freez in the pipe ?

    Wind chill is trying to describe the affect of the wind/temperature against skin.

    You said strong North wind!!!!

    At 36 degrees, the wind would have to be 250 mph to get a wind chill factor of 9 degrees, where you living in a tornado? :)

    Wind doesn't result in something cooling below the actual air temperature--it just makes a warm object loose its heat faster.

    thanks steve & mike &pitman9 i guess i should have said 35 deg with 15 mile wind = 25 deg for keeping me out of the freezer in the past i have been on frozen pipes in crawspaces the home was warm i guess the crawspace was under 32 thanks william

    Well if the air that's moving over the pipes is under 32ºF....
