Relocating Radiators

We are buying a house and know that we want to make the picture window into a sliding door so we will have access to the backyard. Currently there is a radiator under the window, but close to a corner. What kind of work would be involved to relocate the radiator to another wall? What expenses, challenges etc are involved. We are located in Toronto.
Cheers, Casey :)

    Relocating HW Radiators

Casey, I surmise from your application that this is at the main/first/street level- is that correct?

My response is based on that assumption:

If the system is forced hot water and the piping is upfeeding from the basement below, that generally is the most favorable position to be in. Find the piping below and mark where the new location would be. The logistics will be apparent.

Where I might be concerned is if the system is Gravity Hot Water (A Canadian invention, thank you very much.)

If this is the case, often the piping is artfully done with specific sizes, slopes/pitches and seqence of supply to return. If you are talking several feet away as opposed to across the room, this causes me less concern.

But if forced hot water, no worries.

Hate to say that it depends, but "it depends".

Probably the best case is a two-pipe system with all of the piping completely accessible and new or replaced wall-to-wall carpeting.

Probably the worst case is a one-pipe monoflow with the piping behind finished surfaces and nice hardwood floors.
