heating part of building

I recieved a call the other day, got there to this beautiful 9 story 1926 era apartment building, with a new Weil Mclain model 1088 IBR input of 3103 Mbh. This thing was beautiful nice install..so what was i doing there? The company that installed it a year earlier had been called out for a service call for partial heat in the lower four floors on the west side of the building. the told the super that the boiler wasnt big enough...without realizing they installed it ...oops. he was mad. so he called me since i have done smaller apartments with steam for him. with sucsess thanks to this site and books. My problem is the building has had partial heat problem in this one area for 24 years. No blueprints anywhere. This seems to be an express riser with four supply drops...the other three supply steam all the way down...the west side just heats the rads halfway down...the maintence persons have relpaced the traps, im thinking i might have a water leg built up or possibly a dirty float trap. next problem is what if i cant locate the pipes in the walls. Or if i have rads that are missing....What do you guys think? Thanks Chris Petersen ST. Louis MO

    Hey Chris

I would say by the sound's of it you have the possibility of a huge project with that one. I would contact Steamhead and see if he has any suggestion's. I would however guess that you will spend a lot of time investigating the building and a thermal imaging camera may come in handy. Good luck
