  • Seat of a steam trap.

Hi all, What exactly is the seat of a steam trap. I recently had the element in one of my steam traps replaced. Trap seemed to be working but now now steam is flowing. Unscrewed the trap and let the water drain. Still now heat. Heating suppy house mentioned the seat of the trap may be dirty. Plan on having the whole trap replaced but curious to know what the seat is. If helpful the steam trap is Dunham Bush Straight Way Trap.

    Trap parts

The trap works by having the element(which senses temperature) push the disc(moving part) against the seat(stationary part), closing off flow. The seat and disc are replaceable because they wear, saving replacement of the whole trap. Dunham traps are special, since they are designed to work in a vacuum, and discharge air as well as condensate. C.A.Dunham was a genius.
  • That makes sense but how

do you replace the seat? Or does the whole trap need to be replaced?
