Dear Dan
Thanks for all the prayers for my next to youngest son. I am not going to give that one reply a thought, but it did hurt.I want ever one to know something about my next to youngest, His name is Brandon Cring. We got Brandon when he was eleven years old, had been in six different foster homes since he was three years old. Graduated from high school. Played on thhe local high school football team, even won 125lb weight division in wrestling. Married a beautiful young lady named Joy. Gave birth to a beautiful little baby girl named Jilly.Brandon got to spend 6 weeks with MY GRAND DAUGHTER before being shipped out. Now the news and tv want tell you about the war, I will. He has personally seen old people and babies strapped with bombs,
kids with guns, these people will even poison there own water and food hoping to hurt American soilders. After reading this one individuals response, I got sick to my stomach. I first wanted to tell this person to go to ####, but I didn't. This is what my son is fighting for. America and peoples right to voice thier opoions, no matter what they are. Dan I consider you a very good friend and have shared alot of family problems and grief together, but I will never use the WALL again to ask for help as long as they are people out there like that lady who responed on my last thread. She probally doesn't know that the men and women over in Iraq my get a shower once every two weeks if they are lucky. I will keep praying for all the men and women overseas, I won't call her any bad names but my buddy Mike Craft said it best.
God Bless You Dan And Your Family
Peace Be With You

Be Proud
David,
Be proud, the politics may be questionable but the men and women deserve our thanks. They didn't create this they just answered the call of duty.

Here is a picture to help cheer you up.
Shortly after the crisis in the desert started. The Antiwar war people showed up on the corners in the center of our small town every Saturday. As we would drive by my blood would boil. The messages never once supported the troops or America. After about the third weekend of this on the opposite side of the street there were three women with support our troops signs. I thought this was cool. After talking with them I offered to help. My help was simple and the results were overwhelming. I paid for an ad to run three times a week in local newspaper and ran it for a few months. Every week an additional 10 - 20 people would show up. At one point we out numbered them 10 to 1. All supporting the troops. A motorcycle club joined in, Mothers and fathers, vets girlfriends and wives. Every one had the same message.
Support our troops

I can only imagine the daily anguish you must be going through. A friend of mine came back from a tour of duty in the green zone some months ago and until she was in Kuwait, her mother was a near basket-case. Undoubtedly, your son is facing much greater danger, and I hope that he, and all other US troops come back safe, and soon.
US troops deserve our support, even if a small minority misbehave egregiously. When such crimes are reported, the US military justice system has investigated and punished the guilty. Furthermore, there is no question that the US media is shielding us from a lot of the reality that the soldiers are encountering every day, the reality that you are describing in your post.
However, I do not think it is unpatriotic to question the necessity of this war nor the very real cost it has had both here and in Iraq. So far, none of the reasons that were given initially to justify the war (weapons of mass destruction, Al-Queda links, grave and imminent threat to the safety of the US, etc.) have held up to scrutiny.
Hopefully, there will be peace in Iraq soon, so NGOs, the Iraqis etc. can go about rebuilding their country and our troops can come home. In the meantime, I wish you and your son all the best.0 -
They need all of our support
The ones serving in the middle east, as my sister is, and the families here at home.
There is some pretty hurtful language in the air, in some places.

The picture is
my 38 inch stained glass panel in the troop greeting room at the Bangor International Airport. It is mounted on a custom lightbox I built for the panel It shines brightly welcoming home the troops and watching over those on their way out.
There have been over 12,000 troops through here. They are all greeted by a group of people whenever they arrive and handed cookies and hugs and cell phones so they can call home.
It is unfortunate that there are some that do not know how to separate supporting the troops from their issues with this "war". Troops do not have choices, they do what the president orders them to do. And until they come home, everyone has no choice but to support them.0 -
Your son knows
being a x soilder myself, me and both my brothers saw action in one way or another, we are soilders, we serve at the whim of our commander in chief, we ask not why , we just do !! we don't voice our political veiws, we are sent into harms way and do so of our own accord. no matter where or when , we serve, we do not make policies we just enforce them . if they don't like the way things are run they should try turnning out to vote.
when i see a man in uniform i walk up shake his hand and say thank you for doing what YOU do FOR me.
sir i must say to you I am DAMM PROUD of your son !!!0 -
Thank you for your courage and your son's courage...I have two cousins on rotation over there...one is refueling jet fighters and the other is mp...both have been shot at, humiliated by locals, but also thanked by many more.....please don't let a bad post prevent us from hearing from you at The Wall...john

The worst of the Internet, IMO
The invisible nature of the internet allows this kind of ugliness to come out in spades. Also, it was part of the programmer culture to not care about manners of feelings. I'm so sorry that it hit you this hard, please know that those who do this are not worth your time.
I also have concerns about the reasons for sending your son and many others to war. That in no way has me see your son as anything other than dedicated and courageous. May your son find safety around him, and may all the people find their way to peace and happiness.
