did a good thing this week i think

Got a call from a lady in a trailor with no cac, little 4 year old boy and no money. Not to mention the other 300 calls that have come in ( only 109 heat index in the shade )
She had waited all day on 2 other companies to show, and they didn't. She presisted long enough to the ladies in the office, where she finally got to talk to me. She was a single mom, no help from the boy's father and a little 4 year old boy stuck in a 20 year old moble home. So I go trucking down to the middle of no where. fan motor gone, coil plugged, blown run capicitor. 2 hour later and close to a $ 500.00 bill I am finished. The lady offers me a glass of ice tea, which I gladly accept. I start to go over the bill which she has no problem with and how she is going to make payments. The little boy speaks up and offers me his teddy bear since his mommy has no money and doesn't like to see his mommy cry at night because of all her bills. Took all I could do to keep from crying in front of that kid. I tore the bill up gave the lady my last $30.00 on me and told her to take that kid to McDonalds. You can call me a sap if you want and thats ok, cause I am a big guy. But to see that kid stuck in a wheel chair, trying to give me his teddy bear. And I thought I had it rough at times, we just don't know how good we really have it made.

Peace Be With You My Wallies

One good deed deserves another. You're not a sap, but a good hearted individual. What ever money you lost on that job was rewarded by how good you felt doing that deed.
You can't put a price on feeling good when you do good. In the long run, you won't notice that $500 at the end of the year, but you'll never forget how you helped someone in need. God Bless You.

    David...

IMHO, although you were the one who lost $500.00, you have truly been enriching and also enriched yourself. Not only have you done a wonderfully good deed, you have "paid it forward"...and that will never lose momentum. Those two will (hopefully) keep you in their hearts forever. Take Care, PJO

    Good for you, use

the money now while it really benefits you and others. I spent the last year writing $5,000 a month checks to the nursing home for my Dad, the way you decided to spend yours did alot more good.

    \"Pay it forward\"

Was a great idea that I'm sure will happen with this situation. You never know when it will be your turn.
    You did great.

    Many years of referrals

She will tell the story many times over the next few years. I'm sure that the result will be a long term source of referrals.

    Hugs

I'd give you a big hug cause I'm secure with that whole manly thing. You know I had a thought, you tore up the bill, but maybe you could write it off like a donation the way those lawyers do the pro- bono thing??

    You hit the target

Dave, You made a contribution where it means the most. The person who actually needed your charity. I have a hard time giving to charity's when I know the orginazation who is solicating is skimming a healthy % off the top. I believe that everyone benifits when good deeds are done without any expectation of compensation in the future. These acts of random kindness always come back to you at a later date and many times over. It is heart warming to know that there still are more kind and generous people out there than the alternative. It is a shame the media doesn't enphasize more positive messages about our industry like this one. You are not alone and keep up your healthy perspective of priorities.

    Sap

If that is being a sap then I will gladly join the ranks along with you, and have a few times. That was a truely generaous act that someday will come back to you. I am a beliver in karma and that all acts (good or bad) will come back to you 3 fold.

    I am

and continue to be impressed by you. That was a real act of human kindness. Somewhere I read that that type of bread cast upon the waters comes back five fold! May the gold in your heart be matched by the jingle of "gold" in your pockets created by your good will.

    If'n I was a preacher, I'd be working that into a sermon!

    You da man

The media beats us over the head with stories of people doing terrible things to each other, which incites us all to live in fear, and trust no one. 1000 selfless acts of kindness like yours go unreported every day. Let this serve to remind us that most people are genuinely good, and there are even some real heroes in our midst...

    Very nice!

Agree with all and especially Patrick and "Karma".

You don't necessarily have to go to church each Sunday to get to heaven. It can be what you do the other six days that counts.

Excellent story and a shining example of humanity and an olive branch.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Wow

This is why Dan says the wall is for the " the best ".

David that was a wonderfull thing you did. Not only did you help that woman, but you have inspired countless others on the wall who will one day be faced with the same situation. And because of YOU, we will do the right thing. I know I will think of what David did, and I will also do the right thing.

You must sleep very soundly at night.

A couple verses are in order here.......

The book of James, chapter 1 verse 27..... Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

(this is because these folks have no means to help themselves and cannot return a favor or pay for what is needed)

James 2 verses 15,16&17 Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, " Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed", but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

David, I'd say your faith is alive and well. Keep on storing up your treasure "where moth and rust do not consume".

  • SAPS

I thought about that word and here is what it means.

    S - Someone

    A - Acting

    P - Powerfully to help

    S - Someone else

I would to God there were more SAPS in this world. I have found in the 40 + years I have been in this business that it pays to look out for those less fortunate than ourselves and to give from the heart that which we can. I never look for rewards but I know that the good book tells us that our reward is waiting for us in Heaven. You can never out give God but it sure is fun trying. Love ya brother and keep it up it makes us all feel better to know that good stuff is still happening and that good people still are around.

Who ever said \"sap\" was bad????????????

One of my favorite things in the world.... pure Vermont Maple syrup is derived from sap. Additionally, sometimes our snipers in Vietnam were called "sappers,".....they saved countless American lives. You are to be commended, you big sap...you are a man of great compassion and character...I would have done it too...and I think many here would've too!!!!! God Bless You. Mad Dog
