  • man that sounds

like you would have to have something to "cut" that with, perhaps some wine or beer so the arteries don't slow to a crawl.(G) "sawmill" gravy sounds a little dry. and poachin is illegal in these parts.

David do youn'se eat perogies and keilbassy down in them parts??

Foods and recipes from different areas

This topic made me think of a class I was doing one day on combustion, in Hazleton, PA. I used the example of the relationship of how the CO ppm rises when the flame comes in contact with a cold surface.

Like on a Gas stove the flame is for the most part blue with hopefully a relatively low(17 to 19)ppm reading. but when you have pot of cold water and you place it over the burner (like when I'm boiling water for spaghetti) what happens? The flame turns orange and the ppm's rise rapidly. but as the water starts to boil the flame goes back to a blue color and the ppm's come back down.

Ok, to make a short story long (G) A technician in the class had asked me what would happen if the pot had Halupkies in it? This simple question through me for a loop but the neat thing was we got to share some good recipes. So I'll share them with you folks.

    Halupkies - Stuffed cabbage rolls

1 head of cabbage (about 3 lbs)
    1 lb ground pork
    1 lb ground beef
    1 Tbsp salt
    1/2 tspn pepper
1 can stewed tomatoes (or substitute Campbell's tomato soup)
    3/4 cup uncooked rice
    1 onion, chopped
    1 Tbsp shortening

Cut cabbage deeply around core to loosen leaves. Boil the cabbage leaves about 5 minutes and set aside to drain. In a skillet, add ground meats, onions, shortening, salt and pepper, and fry slowly for about 15 minutes. Wash rice, drain, add to meat and mix well.

Place a tablespoon of the meat mixture in the center of a cabbage leaf and roll. Place rolls side by side in pot. Pour tomatoes over top and add enough water to cover. Add another tbsp salt and pepper. Cook 1 and 1/2 hours.

Also called "galumpkies". An Americanized name is "blind pigeons".

    What is worse?

    Hmmm, Lets see.

    0 ppm Desirable level

9 ppm Maximum indoor air quality level

50 ppm Maximum concentration for a continuous exposure in any 8 hour period

400 ppm frontal headaches 1 to 2 hours, life threatening after 3 hours

    Or

0 Halupkies, How could you not at least try One?

9 Halupkies, You'll be full and want to stay in an open air environment :)

50 Halupkies, Maximum allowable portion in one sitting, but you'd be crazy to do this!

400 Halupkies, I think this could be a worlds record?

Wich is more dangerous the Co or the Halupkies? I'll let you folks decide :)~

You don't understand. When I was a kid this is the ONLY thing my aunt EVER made when we went to visit.

If I never have another that would be just fine with me.

In fact, you may have mine Alan. You're always sharing here on the Wall and now it's my chance to "give back".

Let it be known that I, Mark Hunt, being of as sound mind as one can be in this business, do hereby bequeath all of the galumpkies that would have been my rightful share to Alan R. Mercurio. Eat them in good health.

    All the best!!!!!!

    Grits are Great!

My Dad was a military man, and part of my childhood was spent in the south...Fort Rucker, Alabama was the place I first had grits. David, they don't make 'em right up here from what I've seen...just the grits alone with some butter - not the "heart attack special" you so beautifully describe.

When I occasionally travel to the south I always try to get some for breakfast, while my family has this very puzzled look on their faces. My older son likes them some.

David, if you want good grits I'm afraid you may have to bring them yourself...don't forget to bring me some if I can make it! I'm still trying to work management over...

    Take Care, PJO
