Need a helping hand - David Broome

Ran into a bit of a problem today, got turned down today on a rough in inspection. Yes I got turned down. We hung a airhandler under a house. Used all the right things, all tread, i bolts, treated lumber. New builing inspector says the unit has to be at least six inches from the ground. I said show it to me, he said he would tomorrow. Did I miss something in the international code changes this year, I can't find it any where. I don't want to pin this guy ears to the wall and he pull out some revision that is so small it would take a telescope to read.

    New one on me.

But I have never run into a situation where I was that close.

Worst case, dig a hole under it!!!!

    Good luck.

    Int'l Mech Code

I'm looking at the '96 edition, 304.7. A bit of humility may be in order if using the Mechanical code on this job. Maybe the official will allow a condenser pad or two between the bottom of the equipment and Mother Earth. I learned the hard way here that some officials use CABO for residential. Every code but CABO requires gas shut-offs to be not more than 6 feet from the equipment. CABO requires 4 feet max. (sometimes difficult on a log job)In addition to moving the valve, I nearly had to buy his lunch, too. He almost lured me into a wager. That's something else I learned that day...Never bet an inspector concerning codes.

    Good Luck
