If you are on a city or public water supply you probably have a back flow device already in the system. It may be in the meter pit outside. Really no need to have additional devices on a softener or filter, unless it connects to a hazard down stream. Cooking meth are you? :)

Some codes do require air gaps on dishwasher drains, installed on the sink deck. RO units dump into the tailpiece above the P trap under the sink.

The manufacturers installation guide should be your guide also for what is required.

Iron filter? I presume you mean that for some reason you have excess iron in your water. Not common, but it does happen. The best way to get rid of it for a home or small business is with an ion exchange type filter, very similar to -- but not the same as -- a water softener. The media is different, and so is the recharge. A water treatment firm such as Culligan (there are many others) can test your water and determine what is the best system to meet your requirements.

I might add that it is a lot easier to locate and remove the source. If you are on a private system with a high iron well that is not possible, and you would have to treat.
