Need some options folks
Its been getting cold and my old bones hurt more and more, I love going out to my man cave ( aka my little office and also my dogs hang out 10 x 15 room ). the older I get the more and more I hate heat-pumps and scorched heat. I have natural gas to the house and was thinking about building me a boiler out of a 40 gallon natural gas water heater. When my heat-pump goes into defrost and outside temp is below 30 degrees my dog little Scottie terrier that I call Scottie goes to growling and my backside just shivers. I was thinking about getting me 2- 6 foot slant fin base board heaters, a small taco pump that pumps about 1.5 - 2 gallons a minute. Its brand new only used 2 weeks but as soon as I put it in won a tank-less outdoor unit
Now Scottie is a tad over weight according to the vet ( suppose to weigh about 15lbs but goes about 43lbs and loves fried chicken gizzards me to ,
Natural gas is really cheap here and like I said I hate scorched heat and heat-pump less. I am to cheap to buy a boiler so any thoughts Dan, Mark, Yates Cheese-head aka Mike Craft and Allen
PEACE BE WITH YOU FELLAS

Radiant walls and ceilings Dave...
Easy to retrofit, and you can set up a "Scotty only" zone for the pup when you're not in cave.
Low mass, quick recovery, and benefits of RADIANT heat. Can be powered up with fairly low temperatures you will see from the water heater. I'd use the tank versus the tankless. Just don't use it for anything else.
Talk to your wholesale suppliers, and tell them you want to build your own personal radiant experience place, and that you will use them for any future radiant sales, and they should sell you their materials at their cost, saving you lots of moola. Once you personally experience the RADIANT comfort experience, Then, when it comes time to sell a potential customer about radiant, you can speak from a first hand basis, as opposed to "I've HEARD that radiant is THE most comfortable system in the world…"
Go for it, and get comfy :-) Let me know if you need some specific design details. I've got lots of resources.
METhere was an error rendering this rich post.

You Could Easily Add
Radiant to your couch, under the cushions. I did this to my bed years ago, nothing better than sitting right on the heated surface. It won't be enough to heat the whole room though.

Certification
The gas HWT will need to be certified for combo heating to be used for heating purposes. Shame on you Mark! There are code and legal complications of using an unapproved appliance for something that it was not certified for. In the worst case scenario such as an incident of water or fire damage, the insurance could refuse any claim. if there was bodily injury to a third party, they can sue you. The installation of a gas appliance by someone that is not licensed to do so also brings in a host of legal problems.
Get a local professional who is licensed and has experience in doing what you require.
Why your hot air system is not gas fired? You can ad an electric duct heater for colder weather applications.0 -
