Thinking of converting my one pipe steam system to the closed circuit Paul system a freind told me about (something to do with a different vent on the end of the radiator -which attaches to a pex tube -and run down to a central location near the boiler). ANY info. is appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks

Here's a link
to the Hoffman #3 vent, which takes the place of the air vent.
It has a 1/4" connection, into which you'll connect your pipe. Bring each radiator's vent pipe down to a manifold. Hook up a vacuum pump, sized to the air content of the system, and have the pump come on with the burner. Set it to go down to about five inches of mercury.Retired and loving it.0 -
Thanks Dan. However, I'm a little more confused now than before. I thought the Paul system and thermostatic radiator vents were completely seperate kinds of vents (and systems).
I was going to ask which system you recommend (heating bill is the main consideration, along with initial conversion cost and quality and control of heat distribution).
But now I think I might need an elementary course in both systems.
Any help is appreciated!0 -
We did it...
Several years ago we hooked a vacuum pump to the 12 radiators in our 1910 Colonial using those Hoffman #3 Vents.
Fuel savings and improved distribution was nothing short of INCREDIBLE.
It's a bit of work and a little more stuff to worry about, but you can even easily zone the steam with this system. The hardest part of the job is making the old system as tight as you can. If you don't mind the work, go for it.! You woun't regret it.
