Spellcheck

now we're getting somewhere. You are a disillusioned old fart, and didn't achieve what you set out to do. What was that?
Did you teach your children and grandchildren the same way you TRY to teach here, with negative reinforcement instead of the opposite?
Honey, not vinegar, old boy. I'm soooo glad I'm not your son.

I know That I am a culprut to, and I am sorry. Tried Google, but trouble with printing. I try to do the best I can without spending 4 hours in the Dictionary.... If it is made a mandatory code I guess I'll have to take the course and comply with it. Other than that, If ya know what it sounds like, don't let it bother you to much :-). Weezbo taught me everything I know and I still don't know nothing....;-)

Proposals
I sincerely hope that the Proposals that some of you give are verbal and not written. If the customers think you are illiterate chances are not in your favor of getting the work.
How can they have confidence in you, if they think you have an 8th grade education? Educate yourself, there is more to life than turning the wrenches. I am really trying to help!
Ol' Canasta (intelligent, opinionated and handsome)0 -

8th grade education
Funny when I went to campaign school to run for pubic office I was taught to write to a 8th grade educated person. This way you don't talk above or below what most people will understand.0 -
Try this John
John says "This way you don't talk above or below what most people will understand"
It's "SPEAK" above or below. See what I'm talking about people! That's a 3rd grade education. Can see why you are no longer in public office. The 8th graders couldn't understand you.
Ol'Canasta

Don't forget
Some politicians also only have a 3rd to 8th grade mentality. Way to set an example......0 -
with all due respect...
you might be crossing the line into being condescending with the latter part of this post. I am sure many people agree with me that there is no need, and no time to sanitize our contributions to this forum. The contractors who post here are successful, and I am sure the proposals are proofread before leaving the office.0 -
With all due respect...
Judging by some of the (not all) posts, I will go out on a limb and say "proofreading" is not a priority. I am trying to help. How you write and how well you speak is directly related to how people will judge you. Straight pipes and a neat boiler room come later in the process. You have to first present yourself to customer and today's customer is way more savvy. I will use Constantin as an example since he possesses well above average intelligence. He would chew up the pretenders and ill prepared up and spit them out. There are more customers like him than you can imagine. Really, not to sound like Simon on American Idol I am trying to help.0 -
hi pete i think when a customer is looking for a boiler installer their not looking for a nuclear Scientist with university and masters degree's.
customers just want the straight up no (bs) heating contractor that can do the job.
now presenting yourself for the job is important but they don't expect your the smartest guy that knows everything.
they just expect that you know what your doing when it comes to hvac
if a contractor presents himself with confidants and knowledge of the products he services and sells he will sell jobs
also clients want to see that your reliable and honest and will do the job right.
show pictures of jobs you have done have references so they can call and look at your work and be polite you will go a long way.
put me out in sales with the way i write and i will still sell just as many jobs as mike :-)
that's a fact ;-)it really boils down to how you present yourself. and what you present to reassure them your the man they want for the job.
we are in the hvac business not to become writers and stay in school but because we like what we do. and are happy with the way we are if we thought writing was a priority then we can just learn to improve it. but for me ill just stick to hvac ;-)
Jason0 -
This is what I'm talking about
What grade did you quit school? Did you "proofread" your post?0 -
I'm sure everyone here gets my drift and if not they can call me.
in the mean time im going to go and enjoy what i do best hvac ;-)
it's nice to see that you can write well. nothing to be ashamed of.
but don't put down others because there not as good as you.
everyone has there good and bad. and you just have to sometimes take people for who they are.
i had a bad life and did not get a chance to finish school and i was born dyslexic.
but to me im proud of myself in other ways. it's because of this forum and the great people here that would do anything for you.
allowed me the chance to get a job this summer in hvac something i found a passion in. and to me that's success. ;-)
there's more then one way people can feel successful. and to me it's do good on to others what you would want done on to you.
i don't mean any disrespect im just telling you how i feel
thank you
Jason0 -
All I want to know is...
when are the spell check programs going to get it right and correct this:
"not looking for a nuclear Scientist"
to this:
"not looking for a NUKULAR Scientist"

You don't understand Rooster and never will
I am trying to help people exactly like you. I wasn't trying to be demeaning, just explaining there is more to life than turning wrenches.
This is life not a game, you get one shot, don't EVER become complacent in yer learnin' Roosterboy. 5th graders today are like 10th graders of yesterday. Try helping a child with their homework and you will see what I mean. You just can't reach some people, they are blissfully happy in their ignorance.
Some people will understand that this post was designed to help people like you succeed. Those with outstanding interpersonal skills will determine who wins or loses in the next century. Wave as the bus goes by because you just missed it.
Ol'Canasta0 -
believe me i understand and so do most here.
and people like myself are well aware that we are not good at writing and spelling ;-)
and for some of us we are happy just turning the wrench and that's what life should be about doing what makes you happy.
anyway thanks Pete i don't want to get into a long winded thing about this. it's a heating help board.
but like i said i mean no disrespect we just have a different prospective on this issue.
thank you
Jason0 -
I have brought this subject up before and I shall do so again without any attitude of condescension.
I have read herein a great number of posts that discussed the lack of respect, toward those of us in our chosen profession, by some members of society. This is due in part to our own lack of communication skills, and to some extent our verdant business training. This does not mean we lack the ability and talent to perform our tasks as requested, but it does place us at a significant disadvantage when dealing with many of our prospective customers.
If you are careless in your speech, as with the written word, you are presenting an image of being one with lesser education or intelligence than that of your audience. This may be far from a truthful representation of you, but it is implied by your lack of communication skills. There is serious merit in the adage "You only get one opportunity to make a good first impression."
I feel that 99%+ of all those who post on this board are very capable, honest, and dedicated individuals who give freely of their time and expertise to help and enlighten others; I would consider myself fortunate to possess a level of mechanical knowledge that most of you so ably demonstrate. If this were a very, very private, by "subscription only" type of board, I would have little concern as to what lack of spelling or grammer were being used here, however, it is a very public board, with many of our current and future clients reading on a regular basis. It is for that reason that we must strive to present as professional an appearance as we are capable. If that means spell checking our posts and taking a closer look at our grammer, then perhaps our public image will appreciate to the level of our mechanical stature.0 -

ted long time no see hope your doing well i was going to call you. but since your here will you be at the NAOHSM Convention in Hartford
connecticut this year. i would love to see you there
thanks
Jason0 -
Ted
This is clearly out of your league. I am trying to teach young people "life lessons" and you ask me to leave?
Gee Ted, let's dumb down the industry further. The future of this great industry depends on intelligent people who care! It seems like the new blood is diluted with apathy(like you), where's the passion to learn? Ted this you lack, try not to poison the youth by telling them it's OK to be uneducated.
To be criticized by telling young people to learn how to spell and learn punctuation is a bad thing? You go away and try to figure this out.
Ol' Canasta0 -
Well said Grumpy
I have tremendous respect for you!
Cheers!
Ol' Canasta0 -
Pete, just so you know.
Proposals shouldn't be in caps in that sentence, and eighth-grade (spelled that way, not abbreviated) needs a hyphen.
Also, there should be a semicolon, not a comma after Educate yourself.
Just trying to help.
Retired and loving it.0 -
More help on the way:
There's nobody "exactly like Rooster," so you're really trying to help people "like him."
Second paragraph needs semicolons; and it's fifth-graders and tenth-graders, not the way you have it.
We try to help a child with his or her homework, not "their" homework. "Child" is singular.
There's more, but I hope you get the point.
Retired and loving it.0 -
Pete,
you're missing some commas here. There should be one after the word, "Gee," and another after the word, "Ted," in "Ted this you lack . . .
Nobody's perfect, Pete.Retired and loving it.0 -
Pete,
I hate to be critical, but what were you thinking when you wrote: "I sincerely hope that the Proposals that some of you give are verbal and not written." ? Is this intended to be an example of bad writing? The correct word is "oral", not "verbal". And why did you think that you should capitalize "proposals"?
It's hard to write a perfect sentence isn't it? Maybe you should ease up a little.0 -
\" I am trying to help people exactly like you. \"
" I wasn't trying to be demeaning, just explaining there is more to life than turning wrenches " .
And you try to help people like Roosterboy how ? By stating on a public forum he quit school ? Based on what ? He doesn't spell or punctuate as good as you , ol' Canasta ? Anyone can do a search on this forum with your name . Easy to see you aren't here to " help people " .
I have great respect for R-Boy . Not only did he let your snide remark pass , he also gave you a few compliments .
I tried to send you an email - canasta@aol.com . But lo and behold , your addy is not working or more likely , fake . My guess is you're a regular here , under a different name , and use ol' canansta to push some people's buttons . Can anyone confirm or deny this ?
Ron ( can't spell for crap ) Jr.0 -
This is incredible!
I'm just waiting for the recess bell to ring cuz we must be on the play ground......David (D-A-V-I-D up spelt it wright)

Don't shoot the messenger, read the message
Don't shoot the messenger, pay attention to the message. My life is almost over and I wish I could go back and do things differently. I am really trying to help young people, even if I'm not the most intelligent person in the world. Never stop learning and strive to be the best in and out of the classroom. Dan, this industry does not have the new blood it once had. Is it wrong to ask them to be the best they can be? It starts in the classroom.
Ol' Canasta0 -
It's not what you're asking, Pete,
it's how you're asking. Try some kindness and humility. Trust me; it goes a lot further than what you're doing here.
Retired and loving it.0 -
Damn it all
But can any of you guy's SING;-)
Mike T. ;-)0 -
Pete, putting yourself above everyone else while you're trying to send out your 'knowledge is power' message is not a way to gain friends.
Every message I see from you is pompous and arrogant, whether it be about heating or spelling. You seem like the type of person who rustles feathers. Please don't comment on here if that's your mission. We are all just a closely knit bunch of dumb plumbah's, who don't need people putting us down.0 -
Speaking
is the physical act of making sounds. Talking is the art of getting one's message across, or is it vice-versa ? EG. do you talk down to folk, or speak down to folk, the way you do?
If you do not get it yet, Canasta, you never will.
You have insulted the living crap out of Jason and several others, but they just smiled at you.
Haven't you got it, that the guys are playing with you. At any time, any one of them could quit the game & make mincemeat out of you.
You are pompous and condescending, Sir, you are a pretentious snob. I wonder how many ways there are to say that? Let's wait and see, they WILL be coming....unless our host stops this before the fun really starts.
How do you earn that minimum-wage you are getting right now. I ask, because you certainly do not have a job which requires the supervision of other folk...you wouldn't last a week.
BTW, you used the word THAT, twice in the same sentence, within four words of each other..wrong, wrong, wrong. Proof-read thyself, brother, and cast no stones.
Good luck, you are going to need it.
Brian, graduated high school at fifteen.
Parting shot. If Jason and yourself both arrived at my home, at the same time, to bid on the comfort of my home for the next thirty years, you would be out the door in five minutes, and the "Rooster" would be in the basement next week, earning whatever the heck it is he charges because I wouldn't question it!
I know, I know, overly long paragraph, too much punctuation, blah blah. I didn't want to do IT perfectly, and give you nothing to criticize. Oh golly, did I spell that wrong.0 -
But can any of you guy's SING;-)
Now your really trying to show my ignorance, I couldn't carry a tune in ten gallon milk pail as my grampa used to tell me.0
