Counterflow problems

By counterflow, do you mean 1-pipe steam, that is steam and condensate in the same pipe?

What kind of problems are you having?

    COUNTER FLOW PROBLEMS

We came across a small house w/two 2" counterflow steam mains going to opposite ends of the building. Should I twin up the mains and treat it as one single? Or what?

    counterflow

If it's a true counterflow system and its working, don't mess with it. Otherwise you'll inherit it forever. More specifics on the reason for your being there will help us help you better.

We are replacing an existing 2 y.o. boiler that was unattended and dry fired. The system is true counter-flow. Steam and return thru the same pipe. The existing boiler was piped as if there were (was) a return. Also, there is a steam rad above the water level of the boiler in the basement where the boiler is located. The rad has a separate return and piped as a wet return into a hartford loop. That rad is the last connection on one of the two mains of which both are counter-flow. [Go back to my origional question]
  • Frank , do you have any pics ?

Last year we replaced a boiler with 2 counterflow mains . We piped each main separately to the boiler , with separate returns . We dropped down into each main from the boiler header . Found some pics of the job . Hard to see some of the main pipes though .
