Radiant Flow Direction

I would run first on the outside, even with one loop. The edges of the slab have exposure on three sides - top, bottom and side, so they need more heat than the center.

    Radiant Flow Direction

I have 2 radiant loops in a small basement floor - each loop runs back and forth lengthwise - running along the outside wall with closer spaced runs than they are toward the middle - each loop ending lengthwise down the middle. The question is - should the hot water from the boiler start along the outside wall in each loop, or start in the middle of the floor and work toward the walls?? I'd guess it should start on the outside walls, but since it is a guess, I wanted to ask the pros here.. Thanks Dave

    Thanks Hot Rod!!

I figured that was the answer, but hoped to get some pro confirmation like this. I've learned with this stuff that the my first thought may not be the best. I'll be posting pics of this system soon - a well-studied amateur first effort. Dave

  • It's really not that important unless you're running a high delta T across the loop. But all things being equal, might as well put the hot water on the outside.
