My strategy is to keep my eyes closed and scream "Mommy" until it's over.

    Italian boiler

OK, I bought a really old house in a walled hamlet in Abruzzo, Italy. The seller said they had just done some work on the radiator system(3 levels and 3,000 sq ft)to make it possible to control the heat on 2 different levels. Said it worked. Now, an Italian boiler man tells my agent I need a new boiler for $4,000 euros($5,000). I was not there and declined the offer. I'm sure every house(technically)needs a new boiler, maybe more so in Italy if the owner is American and not in Italy.

I'm a renovator do-it-your-selfer. I'll be there on Dec 7 for 3 months renovating. Are the systems the same in Europe? If I can find a mfg plate or something I'll post the writing and specs. Any buddies in Pescara/Chieti who know a shop I can buy parts and stuff? I just can't see how the thing can be ok, recently modified and then be dead. I will do PM and cleaning. Thanks, very busy time, but I will respond to posts...

Do you have thermostatic radiator valves on your radiators/panels?

    Hey Anthony!

Exactly what did you mean by..

"I'm sure every house(technically)needs a new boiler, maybe more so in Italy if the owner is American and not in Italy."

Sounds like your own countrymen are the ones taking you for the ride. Please go back and re-read your post.

    Good luck Tony!

Visited my daughter in Bologna in April, 2003. She had an apartment and the boiler did both heating and DHW, the norm in apartments.

I'd try and find the contractor who put it in and get a second opinion.Or just send me there. ;)

Here in the UK we get boiler spares and some plumbing bits from this company:
    http://www.antaresint.com/PUBLIC/php/first.php?
They are based in Luca, Italy and have some English speaking staff.
As I'm a wee bit nearer to Italy and know a bit about Italian boiler, please e-mail me if I can help further.

Lots of boilers there are Combi type gas boilers as detailed by Allan, but not all.
    Regards.

    Ti posso aiutare?

Non vale la pena pagare un meccanico Italiano. Posso farlo per due biglietti, la prima classe, e una camera durante il mese gennaio.

I wish I had that problem, buddy!

Cosmogas boilers/hot water makers are made in Italy. Nice hot water boiler and pretty efficient.

  • Seems Ideal Standard and Chappee are made in Italy too, though I don't know if they are sold there under that brand.

Una camera with a view on the boiler room, please

When in Rome, some time ago, my brother and I visited the military museum in a converted military barracks. Obviously, it is off the beaten track and neglected by all the tourists, tough luck for them we got to spend the whole afternoon there in company of the curator.

My brother was asking lots and lots of technical questions about the displays while my gaze fell on the numerous radiators...

The curator noticed and she was happy to indulge my curiosity. She referred to her central heating system very affectionately as her termosifoni. Aaah, such class, such elegance - I was smitten.

I made sure I threw the coins in the fountain that guarantees your return.

One big difference that stands out between EU and US systems lies in the piping. They use so much steel pipes which they weld and simply bend in the turns, no copper and very very few threaded fittings. It's all so exotic.

    Have a grand three months.
