Pipe Installtion question with pictures

Nothing quite like being a newbie...I found the attachements button and added the pictures to that thread, but the topic line is off; so I will try again.
Here are the pcitures of the pipe installtion for the boiler in the upper apartment of the home we recently bought.
To me, the installtion looks incorrect. It seems to fit both the 'wrong" diagram on page 78 of Dan's "We Got Steam Heat" and the wrong illustrations for the installation instructions (which are also pictured).
I would like to know what others think. Also, what is the best way to insulate those cooper pipes you will see pictured?
