You mention a "loop seal" several times in your book A Pocketful of Steam Problems. What is it, how is it constructed, and what does one look like?

    Loop seal

It's simply a U-shaped piping arrangement that fills with water and stops the steam. From the end of a steam main it would turn down vertically about five feet and then turn horizontal for a few inches before turning vertical again to join the dry return.
    Retired and loving it.
