Need Advice

I am looking to switch to natural gas. I currently have a 20 year old oil burner (also does hot water). Brick House built in 1901, replacement windows upstairs, attic has insulation (and is a living space), down stairs has original windows with storm windows.

I just got a quote to put in a slant fin Victory VSPH or Lynx Combi. The VSPH (86%) is for $5,080 (with hot water heater installed) and the Lynx (92%) is for $6,575 (tankless hotwater heater).

The lower efficient one has a 25 year warranty and the high efficient one has a 15 year warranty.

What should I chose? I probably wont be in this house forever and I would like to stop paying 2,800 a year in oil.

I am also worried about the life of the boiler. Aluminium verses Cast Iron etc.

Here are the links to the boilers:

    Pricing Aluminum:

    We don't discuss pricing here.

    You couldn't GIVE me an aluminum boiler, even if you installed it for me for free,

    There are 75+ years old CI boilers still out there. How many 25 YO aluminum boilers have you seen?

    Hello,

    Stay away from tankless coil boilers your going to spend way more money on fuel w/ these types of units.

    I install Bosch Greenstar nat gas boilers 5 yr parts and labor lifetime on the heat exchanger . Bosch has a combi H/Hw unit depending on your HW needs. If your staying w/ oil consider a Buderus 115 series unit w/ an indirect or a Ge Geospring Hybrid HW heater. Depending on which state you live Maine has a $300.00 rebate and Doe has a $300.00 rebate on the unit

    Where in the country are you located?

    I'm not a huge fan of anything you listed, I can think of 10 different ways to go...

    What is the heat loss of the building {if you dont know the heat loss your- sq ft, approx build date, and location will give a good idea}

    If it's allowed, go for atmospheric boiler and standard storage water heater. Efficiency is over rated. Especially now that natural gas prices will not escalate too fast. Replacement windows downstairs will save fuel costs more and last longer than new fangled boiler.

    who wants an old boiler

    dont buy a boiler hoping to get more than 20 years out of it. honestly are you going to want 25 year old technology in 25 years? i have customers reluctant to replace their 30 year old cast iron boilers because they are still holding up. they are running 72% efficient and they will for another 10-20years. just my opinion.
