wood boiler pump

yesterday i started my indoor wood boiler and forgot to turn the pump on.  i had it going for about three hours.  the house heated up, so i am just wondering how this worked if the pump was off, and could it have done any harm to anything?  our main boiler is oil and is a backup when the wood burns out.

    Because

You probably don't have any check valves and the heat migrated into the system. Also sounds like the wood boiler is piped right into the existing system with no heat exchanger. Pictures tell a thousand words. What harm could happen? If that aquastat on the wood boiler ever failed and the wood boiler ran away you and your family could be in a situation you don't want to be in.

This read should give you some help in analyzing your system. But seek professional help.

    Whenever

I install wood boilers I wire the pump into the fan circuit so you cant run it with out running the pump.... Not a good idea to forget that pump off, all that energy with no where to go isn't a good thing.... If you do indeed have the open loop wood heater piped into your system with no exchanger {which shouldn't be the case} your zone circ probably pulled the heat in.... I would have to see the piping to make any other assumptions on what caused the heat to move from the stove to the boiler...
