Oil to Gas Converstion Burner

Hello all,

I am new to this board (I actually submitted a similar question to an individual on this board before joining).

I am looking to change my current oil boiler, Weil-McLain P-SGO-5 Series 3, to a gas via a conversion burner.

My first question (there are others but this is the priority right now) is what size and/or type of conversion burner would be best suited for the boiler I currently have?

I just purchased the property this boiler is in and want to convert from oil to gas, especially since the gas line is already run into the house for a hot water heater (even though the boiler produced the domestic hot water as well) and there is a drop down connection for Gas about 3-5 feet above where the burner currently is.

Please assist if you can.

thank you.

    Rethinking location

I will move this to the strictly steam thread since it is a steam boiler.

    Gas

We recently converted this exact boiler with a Carlin burner and peaked at 87.2% efficient. I'd say that's the way to go.

    All entailed?

    JStar,

Thank you for your input, and thank you to the individual moving the thread to the right sub board.

What all does this conversion entail, all things being equal?

I am currently in the Parkesburg area and looking for a contractor that knows what he/she is doing with a system like this.  I have contacted Pompetti heating in Media as they seem to be the closest in the "find a contractor" feature.

Should I do any prep work before the contractor comes out regarding cleaning of the outside of the unit, getting the unit information, etc.?

    there are a few things...

May need a chimney liner, you will obviously need a gas line, some smoke pipe changes, I would do a thermostat with a programmable differential, and a real good cleaning...

    It's a long drive...

I have sent you an e-mail regarding this matter.  It is a long drive (from my perspective).

I look forward to your response.

There is currently a gas line into the house for a hot water heater (designed to create the hot water in the summer so the boiler does not have to kick on to create domestic hot water (as we were told one would have to turn on the thermostat to get hot water in the summer).

That needs some inspection as well as it doesn't seem like it is functioning as it is designed to function.   The domestic hot water from the boiler is great though.

Message not received, can you try again?

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly (trying at least).

For some reason I didn't get the message at my e-mail.  I checked every folder including the spam folder, nothing.

Could you give it another shot?  mm814@eagle.pbu.edu (it is an old college e-mail so if one of the first two letters or three numbers was typed wrong it would send to someone else.

Maybe a phone would be better.  I'll send a message through your website and give you my phone as well.

    Oops

Never mind.  When you said message you meant the phone.  Got it.  It's Tuesday and my brain is set to Friday waiting to be able to begin potentially refinishing the hardwood floors in the house.
