Are these dies past their prime? A homeowner cutting a few pipes and wondering if the dies on this 65R-TC ratchet threader need replaced? My first time threading anything as large as 1 1/4".

Hey glad to see another DIYer with a 65R!

I may be mistaken, but those look chipped to me. I wouldn't want to thread using chipped or damaged dies.

I believe they should all look like your second picture down, although that also looks like it has some damage. Off the top of my head, I remember seeing a set of dies for around $80 online.

It hurts, especially for a tool you'll rarely use but it's worth it.

I would also clean all of that dirt / gunk off of and out of it and lube everything with clean oil. I took mine apart the day I got it. Make sure you use plenty of good cutting oil as well as you thread.

I don't think these are the same dies, although they may be, but they will give you an idea of what you're looking for.

There shouldn't be any broken or damaged teeth, so to speak.

I will tear it apart and see what can be done.
Encouraging words are appreciated. I picked up a die set on ebay that I should be able to use when I track down a vice.
I could not find a decent video on the 65r. Someone should post one.
