or maybe the same importance? i have a few one pipe systems and I believe I have enough veting with the big Gorton's but now have aquired a large house that is a 2 pipe with just the smaller Goron's one on each of the 2 lines. After running for a long time I notice that one leg hisses for quite a while so i'm guessing I need more. No room for the larger Gorton's so I will have to antler it. Not sure how many will be work be correct. Can one put on too much/many?

Also I understand the need on a one pipe system but does it apply the same on a 2 pipe system?

The air has to leave before the steam can enter so venting is important on all steam systems.

What pressure is the system working at, for a two pipe system it should be very low (8-12 oz) and a vaporstat would be a lot better than a pressuretrol.

You cannot have too much main venting, if you want the system to fill with steam at low pressure you need a lot of venting. If venting is not adequate you will pay the fuel company many times more than the cost of the vents in the years to come.

Agreed. And don't forget the dry returns- they need good venting too.

How long are the steam mains and what pipe size?
