Hi all,
It has been a while since I've been on here. Been super busy with large scale PV installs (I would prefer solar thermal).

I am looking at purchasing an 1920's 3,600 ft home. It has a very old steam boiler (I think gravity). I want too replace it with a modern style. It is an old Capitol Boiler. The plumbing is wrapped in asbestos of course.

1.
2. Which is the best and most energy efficient product out there?

Also, If there is someone in the Detroit Michigan area and you are interested in dealing with this, please contact me as soon as you can.

Thanks,
Michael

Naturally we don't discuss pricing here, but if you do a search here for your home town/state, I think a few posts will come up, wherein you may contact the poster for names of local good installers. I think Ban is in Detroit, with numerous boilers.
To begin with, is it one-pipe or two-pipe? Is the system working at the moment?
Start by measuring the EDR of your radiators using a radiator sizing chart from the library here, and that will enable you to size the new boiler.
You may just want to tweak the present boiler, to get you through the winter, and do a replacement next spring/summe, which you might do yourself..--NBC

    Sorry,
I forgot about the cost prohibitive posting on the wall.
It looks to have a supply and return. It is working at this time properly.

If an upgrade will be more efficient, I would rather go that way than only tweaking the existing.

I did a search for this area, not much came up. I want someone off the wall, someone I can trust to do the work. I've done tons of boiler work, but not steam. I don't want to mess with it. I am courageous to a point.

    Thanks for the reply.

How about posting some pictures of the boiler, the boiler area and a few radiators? This would let us know exactly what you have.

Did you find anyone yet? Just wondering as I also need a steam installer.
It's supposed to knock. It's steam.
