Second shutoff for boiler on stairs?

ChrisJChrisJ Posts: 3,531Member ✭✭✭
So my wife accidently shut the boiler off again instead of the basement lights.  This has only happened a few times but it is really annoying.

I want to remove the switch and put a blank plate but I want to make sure Its not violating code if I do.  I recall a few saying having the switch there for a gas burner may actually be against code in some areas but I want to make sure I am remembering correctly.  I of course have a shutoff right on the side of the boiler.\

    disconnect switch at CAZ entry

Required for oil under NFPA 31--not required for gas.

    Thank you

    Thank you for responding.

I'm glad to see it isn't required and I may also consider just using the switch guard as it would allow me to shut it off if I want to without going down the stairs.

The good news is I only saw 6 oz PSI during a 6 degree recovery with a 20F ambient and now the house is nice and warm. Did I ever mention how much I love steam heat?

It's required for gas where I live.

    That's in NYC.

    Switch

A 1" 2 hole EMT strap (electric conduit/tubing) fits the screw spacing pretty well for the switch cover.  That is what I use for switch guards. Maybe 20 cents or less.(Might need small washers depending upon the strap hole size).

    Keep

the switch and use the guard . It is code in many jurisdictions to have it there . better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it .
You didn't get what you didn't pay for and it will never be what you thought it would .
