I lost a job to a company that did this:

JohnNYJohnNY Member Posts: 1,776
This was an incorrect steam header repipe my partner/brother looked at and priced for the client.

The homeowner didn't like our price and called someone else who did the work in the picture for a much lower price. It still doesn't work right. Go figure.

    Steam

They converted the old header into a steam to hot water heat exchanger.

    Fantastic

Thanks for the photo, it made my day. Truly a fine job if I ever saw one. At least they used pressure fittings not DWV.  The worst drop header ever.

So, did you get to repipe it, or just marvel at it?

    piping

Copper pipe allows no swing joints which equals extra stress on boiler sections ( if sectional ) which can cause premature boiler leaking

    Get away from them ladd.

i have seen your work , that is not You.

it gets to you like it does because you know left from right right from wrong and it probably is making you sick thinking about it.

    Yeah.

The called to say they had the boiler repiped, as we recommended last year, but that the system still isn't working right so therefore our assessment that the piping was the problem was clearly a mistake.

We sent a guy to check it out and he sent that picture. We told him to run out of the house and tell them they need to call the company back that did that work and let them figure it out.

    UGH!

    Nice:

    Nice drop header installation.

He could have saved some more money if he had used all DWV Copper drainage fittings. It would have looked even more professionally done. By a dubber.

    Simply stunning!

    Does it pound?
  • JohnNYJohnNY Member Posts: 1,776
    Oh, it pounds, bro.

It pounds, and it gurgles and rushes. It spits like a champ. Barely makes heat at all.

Yep. All hail the low bidder!!

    You can fix this

Suggest they install a couple of 12 horsepower circulation pumps and just make it a hot water system :)

    Its not that bad

They used two finger clamps on the bx line. Its those little extras that got them the job. LOL
